Haiti - Religion : President Moïse pleads for an enlightened and committed Protestantism

This week at the Montana Hotel, President Jovenel Moïse , accompanied by Antonio Rodrigue, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cults, took part in the commemoration ceremony of the 500 years of the Protestant Reformation in the world, in the presence of several parliamentarians and guests from other sectors of national life.

Organized by the Protestant Federation of Haiti, this activity was an opportunity for Reverend Pastor Sylvain Exantus, President of the Protestant Federation of Haiti, to make the history of this great movement, launched by Martin Luther (1483-1546) and who arrived in Haiti in 1816, under the President of Alexandre Pétion.

Pastor Exantus said he was satisfied with the progress of the Protestant Reformation after 201 years of service and evangelization in Haiti. While enumerating the main works carried out by the Protestant sector in the country he invited the Protestant Christians to work for a Protestantism of quality, towards the holistic development of the Haitian man.

In his speech, President Moïse declared "This Christian morality that Protestantism brings to Haiti is essential to the smooth running of the country", which took the opportunity to present to the leaders of Missions, churches, organizations, leagues of Pastors, Associations and institutions, the priorities of his administration and reiterate his determination to dialogue with all sectors of national life.

Moïse pleaded for "enlightened and committed Protestantism aimed not only at leading man to God, but at instilling in the faithful a civic and patriotic sense".

In conclusion, President Moïse promised to make every effort to guarantee freedom of religion and association. While emphasizing the secular nature of the state, he also advocated tolerance and living together among all the girls and sons of Haiti.
