Haiti - Justice : Heidi Fortuné at the National Penitentiary
Thursday, the Minister of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Heidi Fortuné, made a surprise visit to the National Penitentiary, the opportunity for the minister to inquire about the state of operation of the largest prison center of the country as well as the conditions under which individuals in contravention with the law are incarcerated; he was received by the inspector Venel Toto, principal responsible for the said prison.

The Keeper of the Seals of the Republic has taken the time to listen to the grievances of many prisoners whose files are pending at the level of Justice.

With 4.152 detainees with only 387 already fixed on their fate, Heidi Fortuné announced urgent measures to rectify the situation.

Asked by a parterre of journalists at the end of the visit, Minister Fortuné said he intends to convene, without delay, the head of the Procuratorate of Port-au-Prince to address as soon as possible the problem of overcrowding.

The holder of the Ministry of Justice was accompanied by the Director of Judicial Affairs, the Administrative Director and the Director of Communication of the institution...
