On Wednesday, President Jovenel Moïse met with the leaders of the three powers of the State: Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant (Executive), the President of the Senate and the National Assembly, Yuri Latortue (Legislative) and the President of the Court of Cassation, Jules Cantave (Judiciary), to discuss the major issues of national interest in particular the imminent launching of the States-General sectoral of the Nation and the reestablishment of the armed forces.



The presidents of the Commissions of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies as well as members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) also participated in this important meeting.



The Head of State insisted on his consultations with actors of all sectors relating to the States-General, as well as on the establishment, on November 18, of a States-General sectorial, charged within two years, to make arrangements for the restoration of the armed forces of Haiti, in accordance with the Constitution.



Following the installation of the Interim Head, the Government will introduce half a dozen draft laws relating to the functioning of the armed forces.



The participants urged the Head of State to ensure that the States-General are well prepared and representative. With regard to the process of re-establishing the armed forces, participants emphasized the need to make the lessons learned for the former Armed Forces of Haiti profitable, to provide the institution with a legal and regulatory framework based on the civic and professional virtues, as well as the apolitical nature of military service.

The Head of State said that the doctrine of the Armed Forces of Haiti, following the constitution, will focus on supporting the development process and they will have three separate bodies: military, medical and aviation.
