Joseph Ronald Toussaint the Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of the Environment (MOE) proceeded the week to the installation of Mr. Michelet Louis, head of the Directorate of Biodiversity (DB), newly created technical structure within the institution. The assistance of this Ceremony unfolded in the Conference Room of the said Ministry, is composed of Executives, technical directors and employees of the entity.

In his speech, Mr. Toussaint praised Mr. Louis's sense of professionalism and responsibility. Then he argued that the establishment of this structure is part of the institutional reform initiated by Minister Georges recently. If it is part of its desire to strengthen the visibility and image of the Ministry, it aims above all to meet the prerogatives of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity of which the country is a party, he continued.

"Indeed, a great step was taken with the creation of the National Agency of Protected Areas (ANAP) whose mission is limited to protected areas, but that of this structure turns out, because it is responsible for the management of all species, especially those unprotected from the national territory," he concluded.

For his part, Mr. Louis, says he is proud to be the one who has the reigns of the DB. He took the opportunity to thank his superiors of the Ministry, the Minister in particular, for the trust placed in him.

The biodiversity ; support of life on earth is a major issue for humanity, hammered the Director. As such, it also plays a pivotal role in the fight against climate change to which the country is very vulnerable.

Indeed, Haiti, despite its size, is considered a real species factory. It is one of the most biodiverse countries of the "Hotspot of Biodiversity of the Caribbean". There are a variety of ecosystems that are at the base of its rich biodiversity.

However, for lack of excessive human actions and good care, this heritage is very threatened. To reverse this trend, the Responsible for Biodiversity s committed to working hard to meet these environmental challenges.

Not wanting to go it alone, the new owner of the DB said he was ready to work in synergy with the other technical departments of the Ministry, in order to fulfill its mission properly.

An agronomist by training, Michelet Louis was former Technical Director of the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP), which became an autonomous agency of the Ministry since June 2017.
