Haiti - Politic : Revision of the Humanitarian Response Plan 2017-2018
Aviol Fleurant, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation conducted a workshop to review the Humanitarian Response Plan in Haiti 2017-2018 in order to harmonize the strategic orientations and respond effectively to the priority needs in the framework of humanitarian action.

This activity, which brought together representatives of several State institutions, donors, NGOs and UN agencies, aimed both at establishing the main changes in the humanitarian context in general and by sector and at the same time to adapt response strategies and sector budgets according to priority humanitarian needs and finally adopt sectoral response plans including the objectives, activities and indicators by priority sector and validate the 3 planning figures for the year 2018 (number of people in need, number of people to attend, and budget).

In his speech of the occasion, the Minister Fleurant thought it was essential today to find bridges between the emergency activities and those of development. Emphasizing the alignment of the Humanitarian Response Plan with the United Nations Developing Assistance Framework (UNDAF) strategy to enable not only complementarity of programs, but also community efforts to reduce the impact of successive shocks suffered for many years.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Diallo, the Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Haiti, said that despite their coordinated and concerted efforts to provide a coherent and well-targeted humanitarian response, Haiti unfortunately continued to face important humanitarian needs and it was their duty to respond rapidly to the recurring nature of certain crises such as: food and nutritional insecurity, cholera, the binational situation and major natural hazards. He emphasized that the response of the humanitarian community increasingly included a sustainability strategy to help communities cope and make a strong commitment to ending the crisis with better preparedness.
