Haiti - Social : The Jacmel Valley continues its fight against gender violence 25/11/2017 08:25:08 A region known for acts of violence perpetrated against women and especially cases of rape repeated especially on minors, according to the testimonies of 3 residents of rural sections Odette Laguerre and Lina Lafontant and Prévot Romicile. Recall that the program "Repanse Pouvwa", experienced in some communities of Jacmel and Les Cayes-Jacmel between 2010 and 2015, which had a very positive impact, is part of a preventive approach against all forms of violence against women and girls while fighting HIV-AIDS infections. In the implementation of the SASA methodology, the focus is mainly on gender equity at all levels within communities. To this end, several community mobilization activities will be organized particularly with women and girls, involving all social strata in the regions concerned. Note that this methodology was originally developed in Uganda (East Africa), in Kiswahili language "SASA" means in French "now" and in Creole "Kounye a". In addition, materials and tools were produced and adapted for each community, allowing activists of the program to do the work of mobilization, in order to raise awareness and raise awareness among all actors and bring more particularly boys to change their behavior and contribute to reducing the prevalence of the phenomenon of gender violence. Other areas of intervention, support is provided to community-based organizations and associations and women's groups, to strengthen the capacity of their gender members so they can do better this prevention in other areas concerned. As for the second "Kore Tifi" methodology, it is a working guide, developed as a result of the implementation and experimentation of the "Repanse Pouvwa" program. To materialize this methodology, at least three clubs bringing together girls from schools, each headed by a mentor, have already been set up in the Vallée de Jacmel. A space where these girls have already met at least once a week, to share their opinions and reflect on their future, especially to fight against acts of violence and avoid HIV-AIDS infections. In addition, these girls have already benefited from several training sessions related to these methodologies, so that they can become sensitizing agents to other young people in their respective areas. Like other speakers, Marie Yolaine Philippeaux, the Mayor of the Valley said she was ready to support this initiative, applauding that the emphasis is placed on the training component, through these methodologies.
