Haiti - Economy : Very slight slowdown in the rise in monthly inflation

For the month of October 2017, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) registered a slight slowdown, resulting in a monthly increase of + 0.9% against a rise of + 1% in September 2017. In October inflation was 14.4% yoy.

The monthly rise in inflation is mainly the result of the behavior of consumer functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 0.9%), "Clothing, fabrics, shoes" (+ 1.0%), "Rent of Housing, Energy and Water "(+ 1.0%)," Housing Development, Equipment and Maintenance "(+ 1.3%) and" Health "(+ 3.8%).

The positive change in the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index, which represents more than 50% of the household budget, comes from, among other things, the rise of : millet (+ 1.0%), beef (+ 1.7%), pork (+ 1.7%), goat meat (+ 1.3%), fresh fish (+ 1.5%), herring salt (+ 1.3%), cod (+ 1.4%), avocado (+ 1.0%), banana (+ 1.5%), giraumon (+ 1.5%), dogfish, pumpkin (+ 1.6%), green peas (+ 1.1%), eggplant (+ 1.6%), onion (+ 1.4%), garlic (+ 1.0%), carrots ( + 1.7%), tomatoes (1.8%), mayonnaise (1.0%), yams (1.5%), malanga (2.5%), potatoes (1.6%), potatoes (+ 1.8%), the real tree (+ 1.3%), orange (+ 1.2%), papaya (+ 1.4%) and lemon (+ 2.3%).

The increase in the "Clothing, Fabrics and Footwear" index is particularly related to prices of : fabrics (+ 1.0%), suits, universal jackets (+ 1.2%), shirts (+ 1.2%), shirts (+ 2.5%), underpants (+ 2.1%), women's t-shirts (+ 1.9%) and clothing manufacturing (+ 1.9%).

The evolution of the "ousing rent, Energy and Water" index is essentially due to the increase in propane gas (+ 2.7%) and charcoal (+ 2.0%).

The increase in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" index is attributable to the increase in the price of bed linen (+ 1.5%), curtains (+ 1.5%) and the home-made stoves (+2.1 %), insecticide (+ 1.1%), detergents (+ 1.5%), disinfectant (+ 1.6%), wages of domestic staff (+ 2.5%) and dry cleaning (+ 1.5%).

Finally, the increase in the "Health" index is due to drug prices (+ 2.5%), corrective eyewear (+ 2.3%), fees paid to doctors (+ 5.0%) and hospitalization costs (+ 4.2%).
