Haiti - Jacmel : All parliamentarians of the Southeast, discuss together the priorities of the region

Saturday, November 25th, at the initiative of the Departmental Delegate of the South-East, Pierre Michel Lafontant, a working session was organized with the deputies and senators of the 10 communes of the South-East, as well as the directors of the deconcentrated ministries in the region.

This session was aimed to list the priorities of the South-East and to set up a Regional Commission before the arrival of the National Commission in charge of planning of the caravan of change, for a first field visit to the region from 4 to 9 December.

For the first time, all the elected officials of the department were sitting around the same table to discuss the priorities of the region. While welcoming this unanimous presence, the Delegate Lafontant at the end of this meeting, indicated that the problems of road infrastructure, the environment, the cleaning of several rivers in some communes, the irrigation of certain plains, among others, were at the heart of the discussions and that a document will be elaborated including the priorities of each commune.

For his part, the South-East Senator, Joseph Lambert, congratulated the delegate of the Southeast, to bring together all the elected officials of the region. In addition to the problems related to road access that the department is facing, Senator Lambert said he mentioned at this meeting the electrification of the Southeast as one of the priorities. He promised to take steps to advocate with the Government on this issue.

Pierre Michel Lafontant has announced other similar meetings with other stakeholders, including mayors and members of civil society, to gather their views and recommendations as part of the consolidation of this document.
