Haiti - Justice : The mayors of the Nippes engage in the fight against corruption 04/12/2017 10:57:06 During these two days of symposium, various topics were discussed. The first day focused on the declaration of assets, prescribed legal which is, according to the remarks of Major David Basile, Director General of the Unit against the Corruption (ULCC), the first act of transparency of an elected. This intervention was followed by a workshop around the asset declaration form itself, including how to fill it out. He recalled that the ULCC had already organized a training for the benefit of two executives of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH) to support mayors who wish it. The second day tackled the issues related to the legal and regulatory framework of local authorities as well as the local budget implementation modalities. The two speakers of the second day reviewed the law of 12 March 2014 in its preventive and repressive aspects. Speaking at the closing ceremony on behalf of the Director General of the ULCC, his chief of staff, Major François-Marie Sandry Charles-Pierre, emphasized on the moral fundamentals that should guide mayors in the exercise of their responsibilities "You are the ones who, in your areas of expertise, are in a position to change things or make them change, in the right way, for trust, respect, esteem, prestige, honor. We are all people of honor. Be models of virtue in your respective communities, and say well, that all that you will do well in your communes, will be for the benefit of the realization of the general interest." The President of AmaNippes, Mr. Wilnor Pierre, Mayor of Petit-Trou de Nippes, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, invited them to work toward a common goal : the eradication of corruption in the communes. At the end of this seminar, the mayors of the Nippes, like their peers in the West and Artibonite, signed an ethical act against corruption. This document, conceived by the ULCC, is a personal commitment to the fight against corruption and a bias towards the moralization of life and public action. Through this act, drafted in 11 resolutions, the mayors of the Nippes made various resolutions consisting, among other things, of preventing and repressing corruption in their local administrations, rationalizing the management of local public resources and restoring the confidence of their communities in their respective administrations.
