Haiti - Sports : World Championship in Italy, 11 medals for our Karatekas
Monday, Régine Lamur, the Minister of Youth and Sports, accompanied by the Deputy Fritz Chéry President of the Committee of Youth and Sport of the Lower House welcomed with honor the delegation of the National Federation of Karate that made the pride of Haiti winning 11 medals at the 2nd Kyokushinkai Unified World Championship held in Italy from November 30 to December 3, 2017, competing with the best Karatekas from 40 countries.

Presenting congratulations to our medalists on behalf of President Jovenel Moïse and Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, Minister Lamur was very honored to receive this prestigious delegation. Plaques of honor and merit were awarded to the various medalists in recognition of the country for having put their talents to serve it with courage and a deep spirit of sacrifice.

Gold medal :

The performances achieved for several years at the international level by our Karatekas are the result of a long and rigorous preparation, a long commitment, great sacrifices made to obtain these medals and illustrate the enormous talent of these young athletes who shine on the international scene explained Lesly Gervais, the President of the National Federation of Karate and the Shian (teacher) Garry Nicolas, Head of the Haitian delegation.

Welcoming this brilliant performance, the President of the Youth and Sport Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the Honorable Fritz Chéry spoke about the struggle to be made to improve the conditions of participation of our young athletes in international competitions. He also called for awareness of the importance of sport as a means of sustainable development and a source of national pride.

Learn more about kyokushin :
Unlike other styles of karate, the kyokushin generally does not permit the wearing of protection in combat. The blows are worn with maximum force. It is not permissible to strike with the hands in the head of the opponent, however the kicks and knee are allowed and some are of great power. This style of karate was founded by Master Choi Yeoung-eui, which gave it the name of kyokushinkai, which in Japanese means "school of the ultimate truth".
