Haiti - Justice : Jacmel, a slap that continues to make noise !
The case of the alternate Justice of the peace of the Court Jacmel Elie Armand, who slapped the Mayor of Jacmel, Marky Kessa Saturday, December 2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22918-haiti-jacmel-mayor-marky-kessa-slapped-by-a-justice-of-peace.html continues to make noise...

Thursday, December 7, the hearing on the case between judge Elie Armand and citizen Dalou Laguerre, 28, who had defended the mayor and slapped to avenge the Judge Armand, ended in fishtail...

The hearing was interrupted when Laguerre's lawyers (Me Lerine Nathanaël, Colin Rameau, Lamarre Jean-Louis, Gary Bernard, and Germain Pierre) asked one of Judge Armand's lawyers, Calito Calixte, to disclose certain supporting documents giving him access to plead in the jurisdiction of Jacmel this one being from the bar of Port-au-Prince. The request was rejected by the President of the Audience, Me Dumerzier Bellande who ordered the deposit to the prison of Jacmel of the ccused, which raised a strong reaction of the defense lawyers.

Me Lerine Nathanaë denounced the behavior of Judge Bellande estimating "The decision of the judge is arbitrary and illegal" while affirming that it would go to the end in this case he claims the provisional liberty with or without guarantee of his client.

In addition, as part of a joint press conference, the "Fanm Deside" Organizations and the South-East Human Rights Defense Network (RESEDH), a regional branch of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH), have expressed their position on incidents at the Jacmel Public Market where several people were injured by bullets. Reacting on this issue Marie Ange Noel coordinator of "Fanm Deside" called these acts of shame for the image of the city and was worried that Jacmel would become a no law area.

For his part, Pierre Paul Jétho, Program Manager at RESEDH, said that these incidents should be the moment for the authorities of the department to assume their responsibilities. He says it is inconceivable that the citizen Laguerre be the only one to be incarcerated, while several people including Judge Armand and Mayor Marky are the first involved in this case.

The employees of Jacmel Town Hall in solidarity with Mayor Marky Kessa, also convened a press conference to denounce and condemn the behavior of Judge Armand, who slapped the mayor of Jacmel. Obel Evince municipal engineer at the town hall, speaking on behalf of his colleagues announced the holding of a peaceful march, not only to demand the arrest of Judge Armand but also to demand the release of Dalou Laguerre.

For his part, Reverend Dieucin Marcelin of Jacmel's ission Baptiste Stricte Tabernacle, expressed concern about what happened at Beaudouin Public Market and believes that these acts will tarnish the image of the city, while questioning the responsibility of the various actors involved in this case.
