Ralph Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, has learned with amazement the publication of the presidential decree forming the Carnival Organizing Committee 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23043-haiti-carnival-2018-dates-and-members-of-the-organizing-committee-official.html in which the Town Hall is totally excluded and where it is named "Honorary Member", without having ever been contacted or consulted about it !

Mayor Chevry deplores this act which only weakens, once again, the republican institutions and tries to deprive the Commune of its prerogatives of organization of the Carnival.

He recalled that in a letter to the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, on November 7, the Town Hall had formally invited them to take part in working sessions organized on the Carnival of Port-au-Prince 2018. Of letters that remained unfulfilled...

Ralph Youri Chevry reminds that the organization of the Carnival remains a municipal prerogative and that under this principle, the Port-au-Prince Municipal Administration will continue its planning activities for the Carnival 2018, which began for more than a month, while affirming to remain open to all frank, sincere and respectful collaboration of the established principles.

Mayor Chevry informs the press and the general public that the Municipal Administration met on Tuesday with the DJs and the West Departmental Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), to plan the activities of the Sundays pre-carnival and another meeting with the walking bands will be held very soon...
