Haiti - Environment : Project of 3.5 million Euros for the South Department

During his visit to Port-au-Prince in December, Hervé Conan, Latin America and Caribbean Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), signed with Matti Lehtonen, Representative of UN Environment Haiti, a financing agreement of Project "Green Economies" up to 3.5 million Euros (2 million from the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and 1.5 million from AFD)

This project aims both to improve watershed management, especially water management, and to generate sustainable and diversified income for rural households. The innovative nature of the project lies in the development of sustainable practices of vetiver, a major source of income, but also soil degradation in the department.

The "Green Economies" project is part of a larger program co-funded by Norway and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), covering a range of sectors in the South Department, amounting to 7.5 million Euros.

Let's recall that the instruction of this project was initiated in 2016 and conducted jointly with UN Environment and local Haitian authorities.
