Haiti - Social : Interception of 87 Haitian migrants off the Bahamas 28/12/2017 09:34:08
On Christmas Eve, a sailing vessel was reported to the Royal Danish Defense Force (RBDF) Operations Command Center by the US Coast Guard operating in the area.
The vessel was intercepted by the Bahamian Armed Forces patrol boat commanded by Lieutenant-Commander Stephen Rolle about 30 miles southwest of Great Inagua. The boat, originally from Turtle Island in Haiti, carried 87 undocumented Haitian migrants (72 men, 12 women and three children).
The Royal Bahamas Defense Force has reportedly been involved in the year 2017 in the arrest of more than 1,200 illegal migrants, mainly Haitian nationals.
