Haiti - FLASH : 200 peoples rescued

The joint efforts of Haitian coastguards and civil protection agents allowed to evacuate, Saturday at midday, up to the last passenger of a boat having agrounded https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23192-haiti-flash-sinking-off-caracol.html a little earlier, on corals, in the area of Fausse-Passe, off the town of Caracol (North-East). "No loss of life has been recorded," confirmed an official, in contact with the director of Civil Protection.

The boat, which was heading illegally to Providenciales Island, in the Turks and Caicos Archipelago, was shipwrecked on Saturday morning and was carrying about 200 passengers.

The boat came from Plaine du Nord, in the North department. Alerted, the mayor of Caracol quickly dispatched a boat to initiate the rescue operations, continued by a joint team of the National Coast Guard and Emergency Preparedness.

The previous day, the Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti had issued a special notice prohibiting until further notice all cabotage activities on the northern coast of the country and recommending caution on the south coast and in the Gulf of Gonâve because of dangerous sea conditions due to weather disturbances affecting the country for several days.
