Saturday, was held the religious ceremony of celebration of the Canonical Possession of Bishop Max Leroy Mesidor (56 years) as the new Metropolitan Archbishop at the Transitional Cathedral of Port-au-Prince.

The ceremony was attended by President Jovenel Moïse accompanied by his wife Martine, Prime Minister Jacques Guy Lafontant, Speakers of Parliament Youri Latortue (Senate) nd Cholzer Chancy (Chamber of Deputies), members of the Government, parliamentarians representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps, of the Apostolic Nuncio Eugene Martin Nugent of the Catholic Clergy, Bishops, priests, nuns and many faithful.

In his homily, Bishop Mesidor, which was also the 56 birthdays, said he was ready to play its part in the advancement of the country through the pastoral mission that God has given him as a religious adviser on social and political plans and said take this mission with the love of God.

With this new responsibility, Monsignor Max Leroy Mesidor will have many more responsibilities in his pastoral mission as: to look after the Diocese of Nippes, South, Grand'Anse and Southeast as well as the 119 parishes of the Department of the West. According to Archbishop Vital Medee, Vicar of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, there are many challenges and opportunities in the context of a socially difficult policy.

Mgr Max Leroy Mésidor was born on 6 January 1962 in Saint-Marc, in the diocese of Les Gonaïves. After his secondary studies in the “Collège de l’Immaculée Conception” in the city of Les Gonaïves, he entered the national major seminary of Port-au-Prince, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology in 1987. From September 1998 to September 2000, he studied pastoral theology and catechesis at the University of Leuven, Belgium, obtaining a licentiate.

He was ordained a priest on 10 January 1988 for the diocese of Les Gonaïves.

He has held the following ministerial offices: parish vicar in Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite (1988-1989); administrator of the same parish (1989-1992); vicar of the Cathedral of Les Gonaïves (1992-1993); pastor of the parish of the Visitation (1993-1998); pastor of the parish of Saint-Marc (2000-2008); vicar general of the diocese and pastor of the Cathedral of Les Gonaïves (2008-2012). Msgr. Mésidor was also head of the “Pastor Bonus” diocesan pastoral centre and chaired the diocesan commissions for catechesis and for the liturgy.
