Haiti - Politic : Check presentation ceremony to political parties
Monday, in the presence of Ministers Jude Alix Patrick Salomon (Economy), Max Rudolph Saint-Albin (Interior) of Aviol Fleurant (Planning), Joseph Guillaume Chief of Cabinet to the Prime Minister and representatives of political parties, the Government Lafontant proceeded during a ceremony, to the symbolic delivery of checks to political parties. A gesture that reflects the executive's desire to materialize the institutionalization of parties in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, Minister Salomon first stressed the efforts made by the two branches of the executive to achieve compliance with the Haitian Constitution. Recalling that the application of the law of January 16, 2014, was essentially the strengthening and structuring of all political parties legally eligible to receive funds from the Public Treasury, to enable them to participate equitably in democratic life.

Moreover, he reminded party representatives that the provision of taxpayers' money also requires a sense of responsibility and does not imply allegiance to the Government stating that "in accordance with the provisions of the law on training, functioning and the financing of political parties, the latter must proceed at the end of each fiscal year to an accounting report to the Superior Court of Audit and Administrative Dispute (CSC/CA) for control purposes."

Mathias Pierre, the Representative of the Monitoring Committee for the Financing and Institutionalization of Parties, Policies (COSFIPP), specified that 57 political parties were qualified to obtain financing totaling 571.9 million Gourdes, distributed as follows: 13 parties will receive a monthly amount of between 1 million and 6.6 million Gourdes; 11 parties will have an amount between 504,000 and 727,000 Gdes; 14 parties ranging between 199,000 and 437,000 Gdes and 20 other political parties will receive a sum ranging between 100,000 and 107,000 Gdes. "Only a permanent electoral law and a well-functioning electoral machine can guarantee a good election," insisted Pierre, while recalling that a set of recommendations were made by the commission to improve the Haitian electoral system.
