Haiti - Security : Theater workshops at school to learn how to save lives

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities inaugurated last Friday in Cap-Haitien, a series of theater workshops on the prevention of major risks, carried out with the support of the Program des United Nations Development Program (UNDP-Haiti) and the Government of Japan.

The first three workshops, which will last until 1 March (date of the World Day of Civil Protection), target schools in the North and North-East departments whose environment is highly exposed to natural threats.

For one month, hundreds of students in the first two cycles of basic education will be sensitized to natural threats that may affect their community, especially their school environment.

Through sessions of exploration of their immediate environment, initiation to saving gestures and contemporary artistic creations, these children, teenagers and adolescents, will be able to better understand the major risks to which their community is exposed so that they can contribute to reduce them, but also better respond to emergencies.

Sixty of them will then participate in theatrical expression sessions, which will be led by the Association Quatre chemins. These apprentice actors will present a show to their invited audience at the end of each workshop.

Beyond these workshops, it is the whole issue of education in the prevention of major risks and the civil protection that the National System of Risk Management is strengthening, so that these young students can affirm as full-fledged players in the construction of resilience.
