Haiti - Jacmel Carnaval : 1 dead and several wounded by gunfire
Sunday, February 13, at approximately 10h30pm, during the 6th pre carnival day on the Barranquilla Avenue in Jacmel, Jimmy Charles was killed, Jean Charles Anel et Wendy Destiné, have been seriously wounded by gunfire.

Unidentified individuals threw stones and bottles causing several minor injuries. It was during these incidents that Jimmy Charles, aged 26 was hit by a bullet to the head when a carnival float of DJ "Pran Plezi Prodiksyon" animated the streets of the city as part of the 19th edition of the Jacmel Carnival.

Rushed by ambulance to a hospital in the capital, because of the seriousness of his injuries, the young man died before arriving. The other wounded were quickly transported to the hospital Saint Michel de Jacmel and 2 were transferred in a hospital of Port-au-Prince.

Some participants accuse the police to have firing on the crowd, others are pointing the finger the members of the group "À la 1 Dezòd" who sowed chaos in the evening. These incidents have triggered panic in the area, angry participants, have made "hunting" to the police which ensured the safety of cultural event. Police had to use their weapons by firing into the air, to escape the angry population. No information was provided by the police on the origin and circumstances of these fatal shootings.

Unfortunately this is not the first time that we deplore the casualties in these days of Carnival in Jacmel, several injured had already been reported at the 2nd and 5th day of pre carnival...
