Haiti - Security : An orphanage destroyed by the flames...

The leaders of the Calinous Association of Haiti (in France) learned with astonishment the news of the fire that destroyed on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the orphanage "La maison de l'espoir" private body recognized, located in the district of Lilavois at Bon Repos north of Port-au -Prince.

"Fortunately, the 48 children who lived there are safe and sound," confirmed Dominique Uthurralt, President of the Béarnaise Association. The fire ravaged the big house of 400m2, clothes, furniture, kitchen, everything is destroyed, it remain only the walls and roof of the house." The children were temporarily relocated to neighbors. The causes of the fire are unknown for the moment.

The French Calinous Association of Haiti has sent emergency aid of 5,000 euros to the Director of the orphanage in Haiti and launched a fundraising campaign to collect nearly 25,000 euros sum estimated for the reconstruction of the orphanage in Haiti.

Let's recall that the construction of this orphanage fruit of a cooperation with the Association Calinous of Haiti in France, was born thanks to the financings of the Crédit Agricole foundation, the general council of Pyrénées-Atlantiques and generous donors béarnais and from elsewhere. This project had received the support of the French Development Agency as well as the regional council and the European Union.
