On Wednesday morning at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse received the letter of credence of the new accredited Ambassador of the United States of America in Haiti, Mrs. Michèle J. Sison, confirmed by the US Senate on November 2, 2017, who replaces at this post Ambassador Peter F. Mulrean who had retired on February 27th

"Today's accreditation of the new US Ambassador, Mrs. Michèle J. Sison, reflects this shared desire to build together the solid foundations for respectful and successful cooperation in the work of promoting the progress of our two countries," said Jovenel Moise.

After the ceremony ambassador Michèle Sison declared "I am deeply honored to have been asked to represent my country as the new U.S. Ambassador to Haiti. Haiti has held a very special place in my heart since the early 1980's; I began my diplomatic career in 1982 as a young diplomat in Port au Prince and have always remembered the warmth of the Haitian people, the country's great natural beauty, and Haiti's unique culture and proud history."

"It was a great honor to present my credentials to President Jovenel Moise [...] Haiti and the United States share a strong commitment to freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. Haiti is of vital interest to the United States and the entire Western Hemisphere. The United States has a tremendous amount of respect for the Haitian people, and we are proud of our partnership with Haiti. Haiti and the United States share a long history of close relations, and our futures are closely linked through the nearly one million Haitian Americans who contribute to prosperity in the United States and to the economic growth of Haiti."

Subsequently she was presented a floral offering at the National Haitian Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH), in tribute to the Fathers of the Fatherland. Welcomed by Michèle Frisch, the Museum's General Director, the new Ambassador then took a guided tour of the Museum's exhibition halls.
