To avoid any misinterpretation of the Decree published on March 1, 2018, on the obligation to make and pay all commercial transactions on the national territory in Gourdes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23701-haiti-politic-obligation-to-carry-out-all-commercial-transactions-in-gourdes.html , the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) reminds banks and other financial institutions that :

"1 - All transactions in foreign currency accounts remain unchanged, in accordance with the provisions of Article 2 of the January 1990 Decree relating to that of July 7, 1989 on foreign currencies.

It remains understood that remunerations of deposits and withdrawals of funds must be made in the currency of the account, according to the management of these accounts, in accordance with article 2 of the decree of 29 September 1989;

2 - The interest and costs relating to any credit shall be deducted in accordance with the loan agreements;

3 - Banks and other financial institutions are required to comply with the provisions of Circular Letter No. 11 of 1 July 2015 on the obligation to grant consumer loans in gourdes;

4 - The recipients of transfers will continue to receive their funds in Dollars or Gourdes as they wish, following the circular letter No. 08 of June 9, 2011

Foreign exchange transactions will be carried out by the authorized financial institutions according to the laws in force."
