Haiti - RD : Defense Minister determined to stop illegal migration
The Dominican Minister of Defense, General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, during a tour with Elias Piña Senator, Adriano Sánchez Roa and other local authorities, reiterated his commitment to defend national sovereignty and "to seal the border" in his words, to prevent the passage of illegal Haitians in Dominican territory "Let it know it will hurt a lot of sector, I know we are going to affect a lot of interests, but we will do it."

Paulino Sem and Sánchez Roa listened the concerns and grievances of the residents of these border communities about illegal migration, as well as the explanations of the commanders of the different regiments stationed at Pedro Santana.

The Minister of Defense gave instructions to the officers and guards and gave them specific orders "[...] illegal Haitian citizens must remain in their country and those who are allowed to cross the border on the days of market, must return home once the market is closed."

To the soldiers stationed in the municipality of Bánica (± 7,000 inhabitants) he reminded them that the Haitians must remain on the left side of the Artibonite river (which serves as a border) and not cross to come to the Dominican territory.

Finally he ordered the reinforcement of the patrol along the international road along the border and the addition of more soldiers if necessary.
