Haiti - Agriculture : Moïse wants to increase rice production in the Plain of Maribao

Friday, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by a French delegation, Carmel André Belliard, the Minister of Agriculture and elected officials of the department of North-East among others, made a visit of the Plain of Maribao in the Commune of Ferrier,(Northeast), which produces the most rice in the country, next to the Plain of Torbeck and the Valley of Artibonite.

Moïse has already instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly launch the irrigation project of the Maribao Plain and work on the Seed Center from July, which will put an end to the difficulties of the planters of the Northeast department to find quality seeds and other agricultural inputs.

The Head of State said he was determined to remove agriculture from the archaic system and come up with modern equipment that will reduce losses of rice lost by rice farmers while increasing production, which will also increase their income.

He announced that the Commune of Ferrier would receive 30 new tractors to start the irrigation work of the Plain of Maribao, which will be realized thanks to the expertise of a French firm that has already proven itself in many African countries.
