Haiti - Border : Definitive closure of the old bridge, Dominican side...

Yesterday, the Dominican authorities have definitely close the road of the old bridge which separates the two countries, in order to settle in the new structure which was built in Dajabón.

The new government offices were opened last Thursday and their construction was financed almost entirely by a significant investment of the European Community (EC).

The Dominicans have argued that the closing the border on the old bridge will allow better control and the implementation of more effective measures against a number of problems that occur on the common border.

Dominican officials have told the press, that the measure was not well received by the Haitian border authorities. Some Haitian officials are objected to the closure of the border on the old bridge and have announced Monday to the Dominican Republic that they will not move their offices into the new structure, arguing that they did not have the authorization of the central Government at Port-au-Prince.
