According to economist Kesner Pharel, President of the Group Croissance, organizer of the event, Haiti currently imports products worth an estimated $5 billion a year, including nearly $1 billion in food products that can be produced locally. He also stressed that it is time to think in a viable way to support financing in the agricultural sector and to modernize it in order to reduce imports. Senator Joseph Lambert, Senate President pointed out that agribusiness is agonizing saying "Haitian agriculture is in decline, despite its importance in GDP," while stressing the need to find synergy between producers and local authorities. For his part, Senator Francenet Denius, President of the Commission "Interior and Local Authorities" suggested to local authorities to take into account agricultural and savings cooperatives as sources of fair financing for operators and processors as well as other legal and financial means. Similarly, it proposes to make decisions on mining explotation to make it a source of financing for development in general and agriculture in particular and finally set up an insurance system and a guarantee fund for farmer.
