Haiti - Music : 3rd Edition of Jacmel Jazz Festival
For its 3rd Edition, the association Jacmel Jazz Festival in partnership with the Haiti Jazz Foundation has decided to join the Jacmel Jazz Festival on the International Jazz Day. This new edition of the Festival will be held in Jacmel between the Alliance Française, the Dessaix Baptist School, the Rue du Commerce and the Belvédère from Saturday, April 28 to Monday, April 30, 2018.

On the program, concerts, conferences and free workshops with talented musicians and also exhibition of works by Haitian painters Eder Romeus and Charles Alix. A weekend that promises to be already festive since the city will also celebrate its patron saint that will allow the various sectors and the city of Jacmel to benefit from the economic spinoffs of these events in the hotel, restaurant or small tradespeople.

The concerts will start every evening at 7:00 pm with musicians such as Cuban saxophonist Felipe Lamoglia who will be accompanied by the trio of Johnbern Thomas the unavoidable Haitian jazz drummer, but also SMS Kreyol who will propose his dynamic kreol jazz, Diapana the percussionist from Martinique, Gessoit Pierre Louis and Josué Alexis the talented jazz pianist or Jazzistik a group of young jazzmen from Jacmel to name a few. At the invitation of the Haitian drummer, Johnbern Thomas, the Cuban saxophonist will accompany the trio in concert on April 29 at the Rue du Commerce.

In addition, since the proclamation of the International Jazz Day by UNESCO in 2011 the Haiti Jazz Foundation celebrates every 30 April this day.

This year, this day will be celebrated with the participation of the "Kreol Jazz meeting project". This formula is intended to bring together musicians from around the world who recognize themselves in Kreol Jazz and allow them to share their talents, visions and ideas in the same spirit in order to promote this style of music in all its diversity on the same stage. For its first public release, the band will be composed of Joël Widmaier, Mushy Widmaier, Gerlad Kebreau and Godwin Louis of the United States.

In addition, thanks to the support of the US Embassy, a workshop on the music professions will be proposed by Joël Widmaier and Milena Sandler at the Dessaix Baptist School on Sunday, April 29 to raise awareness among young professionals of music in the value chain of the record industry and live. Other conferences will take place, notably on the history of jazz and the contribution of traditional Caribbean rhythms.
