Saturday at the Café Trio (Cap-Haitien), while Senators Youri Latortue (Artibonite) and Jacques Sauveur Jean (Northeast) gave a conference-debate on the subject of the alleged corruption of PetroCaribe Funds, unidentified individuals burst into the room and fired tear gas on participants sowing panic and several injuries in the public experiencing suffocation. The death during this incident of the journalist and featured host of this conference, was confirmed.

"It was a criminal act and it was the responsibility of the police to ensure the security of the place, the police are the first responsible to let people gass at a conference full of people, there is a dead and several wounded," said Senator Latortue, stating that "very powerful people [...] do not want to talk about corruption, especially how they spend Petrocaribe funds, it's a shame and we will not shut up."

The police said they have not yet identified the individuals who caused this attack.

Reacting to the news of the attack, President Moïse said a few hours later "I deplore the serious incidents that occurred this Saturday in Cap-Haïtien in the Club Café Trio that caused the death of a person and several wounded. I take this opportunity to convey my sympathies to the victims."

Senator Dieudonne Luma Etienne (North) condemns and deplores the incident that caused quite a lot of damage to the participants and the confirmed death of a man, during a conference held by Senators Youri Latortue and Jacques Sauveur Jean and sends all his sympathies to the victims, especially the grieving families, friends and relatives of the renowned journalist Jacques Dubois who died during this attack.

At the end of this drama, the Bureau urges law enforcement and judicial authorities in the North to take every possible step to hunt down and condemn the perpetrators of these acts that affect the well-being of the community, saying that "the North must not in no way be a place of violence and banditry".
