Haiti - Politic : Official inauguration of dam works on the Marion River
On Tuesday, May 1, as part of the first anniversary of the Caravan of Change, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Prime Minister Lafontant, in the presence of members of the Cabinet Minister, senior officals of the State , the US Ambassador Michele J. Sison, Ambassador of France Elisabeth Beton-Delègue and other members of the international community proceeded to the official inauguration of the construction works of the dam of the micro-hydroelectric plant on the Marion River, in the community of Grand Bassin, at Terrier Rouge (Northeast). Remember that this work began more than two months ago and that the last visit of the site by the Head of State dates from March 10, 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23797-haiti-politic-moise-visits-the-construction-site-of-the-dam-on-the-marion-river.html

Recall that in addition to dam construction, a reservoir with a capacity of 10 million cubic meters, as well as a solar powered pumping station will be installed to facilitate watering operations and ensure the availability of water for the farmers by allowing the irrigation of the vast cultivable plains in Grand Bassin, Acul Samedi, Savane Carré, Malféti etc...

In addition, provision is also made to facilitate access to drinking water for the entire population of the region from the completion of this dam. Treatment centers will be installed through the National Directorate for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA).

Although the Government is discreet about the power capacity of this plant, the origin of the financing or the companies involved, it can be deduced that this project stems directly or indirectly from cooperation with Cuba, where cooperation had already been initiated for the construction of micro-hydroelectric plant in October 2017 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22357-haiti-politics-towards-a-cooperation-with-cuba-in-the-construction-of-dams.html .
