Haiti - Tourism : Assessment and vague prospects of the tourism sector

Monday Colombe Émilie Jessy Menos, the Minister of Tourism, as part of the "Monday of the Press" presented a vague assessment of her route as the development of various tourist sites, participation in several fairs and their positive impact...

She mentioned that the number of tourists in Haiti for the fiscal year 2016-2017 was close to 1.5 million, including cruisers, without giving the distribution, the origin of these tourists, the average duration of stay and the economic benefits for the country. Recall that in 2013 Haiti had recorded 643,634 cruisers.

Between a report and insecure perspectives, Minister Menos emphasized the revitalization of her ministry and mentioned that 8 tourism projects had been approved by the Interministerial Commission for Tourism Investments, for a total amount of about $35 million without explaining them...

She also mentioned the creation of new structures within the Ministry: a Cruise Management Directorate and a Directorate for the Development of Tourism Sites and Infrastructures, as well as the adoption of a set of draft legislation on tourism sector (without details) will be submitted to Parliament in the near future.

She also said that she is working on the inventory of all tourist sites, stressing the importance of taking advantage of the potential of our various natural and heritage sites, saying that "the tourism sector is the most promising sector of the national economy," without quoting figures.
