Haiti - Politic : 6th week of paralysis at OAVCT

Frantz Bernard Craan, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Haiti Industry (CCIH) remains concerned about the continuation of the strike of employees of the Office of Insurance of Vehicles against Tiers (OAVCT) started on April 2, to demand the departure of the Technical Commission set up for the restructuring of the institution.

He salutes the efforts of the State to regularize the functioning of government agencies and to guarantee the quality of the services they deliver to the public https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21886-haiti-politics-a-debt-of-700-million-gourdes-to-the-oavct.html

but also recognizes the right of employees of the Public Sector to strike to defend their rights and claim what they think they are due.

However, he notes that "the paralysis of the activities of the OAVCT for the 6th week, exposes the drivers whose insurance policies have expired without any means of renewal, to the sanctions of the agents of the National Police of Haiti ( PNH); but above all, road users who are victims of traffic accidents no longer have any means of redress or compensation, normally provided by the OAVCT.

This prolonged work stoppage also makes it impossible to deliver motorized vehicles legally imported by dealers and subject to the prior and compulsory obtaining of insurance against third parties."

The CCIH urges OAVCT employees, members of the Commission and all other stakeholders to work towards the resumption of operations of this institution without delay, in order to allow the population to go about their business with confidence.
