1,510 Visas were granted to Venezuela by the Consulate in Caracas and 621 by the Consulate in Puerto Ordaz. In addition, consulates in Venezuela excluded 971 visas from applicants who did not have all the required background and rejected 151 applications that did not meet the requirements. For this group of visas, it is necessary to add 20,683 applications registered and whose revision is in progress in Venezuela.

Regarding the new tourist visa for Haiti, Minister Ampuero revealed that 72 requests were received in Port-au-Prince, 66 of which were rejected for failing to provide all the documentation or information required. 2 visas have been granted and 4 are under revision.

"It is satisfying to see how this process has been ordered, how people are treated, how this work has been done and the whole country has welcomed the new measures adopted by the government in the sense of the border order," said Chancellor Ampuero

Recall that now the new rules requires requires Haitian citizens to obtain a tourist visa at the Consulate in Port-au-Prince before flying to Chile. This 30-day visa, extendable to 90 days can not be exchanged in Chile for a permit to stay in the country.

To compensate for the new migratory restrictions in force since April 16, all Haitians who arrived in Chile before April 8, 2018, benefits from a program to regularize their migrant status, a process that will end in July 2019. In addition, as of July 2, 2018, 10,000 additional family reunification visas will be issued in the following year, a benefit reserved for Haiti.

For Erik Lundi (37), a Haitian who arrived in Chile 6 years ago, this regularization plan "[...] is a very good option. It is very reasonable to give legal status to those who are here [...] But there is a lot of racial discrimination. In the case of Haiti only a 30-day tourist visa is issued, while Venezuelans have access to a one-year democratic visa. It's very discriminatory [...] It should be the same for everyone."
