Haiti - FLASH : Serious accident, the mayor of Port-de-Paix in mourning

Tuesday morning around 9:30, Deputy Mayor Tony Vernio aboard a backhoe loader, accompanied by the operator, a security agent and Mayor Josue Alusma was the victim of a fatal accident at Quai Street in Port-de-Paix as he was preparing to go to Trois Rivières for cleaning

The accident occurred when the heavy machine rolled into a ravine on the road leading to the administrative complex of Port-de-Paix, where the Town Hall is temporarily housed.

The deputy mayor remains stuck under the heavy machine and despite the many efforts made by civil protection technicians and the Red Cross, Tony Vernio has given up on the spot. The Public Works technicians intervened to release he body of the Deputy Mayor Vernio and to hand it over to the competent authorities for the follow-up action.

Mayor Alusma, the operator and the security guard were rushed to the hospital for various fractures.

The municipal administration sends its sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Deputy Mayor Tony Vernio, who during his passage to the city of Port-De-Paix showed a respectful personality.

Deeply saddened by this terrible news, the North West Delegation sends its sincere sympathies to the people of Port-de-Paix and to the family of the deceased in particular.
