Haiti - Elections : Scouts disagree with CEP

Last month, Gaillot Dorsainvil, the President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) had announced that the population will be supported by "orienteers", a new class of CEP agent, which will have as role to help the voters to identify their polling station. It was clarified that most of these orienteers will be Scouts.

However, Louiner Jean Mary, the director of the electoral operations said that the CEP had not reached an agreement with the Scouts for this task. The CEP should therefore consider an alternative solution quickly, because these orienteers should receive training sessions on March 13. The CEP plans to ask the cooperation of civil society organizations so that they designate persons qualified to perform this function.

The Director of Operations, said that the lists of names of members of Polling Stations (BV), communicated by the political parties, were completed in 9 of the ten departments. 33.500 members will be recruited from these lists. About the recruitment of supervisors, given the new criteria, the process is far from being completed. To be qualified for this function (300 positions) the applicants must have completed their classical studies and have already performed this function in an election, without having been subject to complaints in their work.
