Monday at the Primature, in the presence of the Ministers Jean-Marie Reynaldo Brunet (Interior), Jean Roody Aly (Justice and Security) representatives of the Haitian Red Cross (CRH), the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) as well as members of the National Risk Management System (SNGRD), Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant has launched the preparations for the 2018 Hurricane Season, which begins on 1 June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24508-haiti-security-2018-hurricane-season-prospects-and-probabilities.html

The role of this meeting is to manage state action at its highest level in terms of prevention and response in emergency situations, the Prime Minister said, recalling that "the prevention of risks is not during the hurricane period but must be done throughout the year [...]" saluting the steps taken by the Government to reduce the impact of major natural hazards in each of the communes of the country.

According to the Prime Minister, the launch of the active season, results in a strengthening of the actions of preparation aiming at the reduction of the risks and the mobilization of resources aiming at providing an adequate answer in case of alert to respond the needs of the populations stricken in the affected areas.

The Head of Government believes that it is important to continue to raise awareness of the potential threats to the personal security and property of the next six months and to pursue actions undertaken by different ministries and government services, in their area of competence, to strengthen civil protection structures across the country and continue to carry out mitigation interventions on the ground.
