Haiti - Politic : $55M for Strengthening Municipal Urban Resilience

Friday, June 8, Jean Marie Reynaldo Brunet, the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities met with representatives of the World Bank (WB) in Haiti, around the Project for Municipal Development and Urban Resilience (MDUR). This WB-funded project, worth US $55.4 million, formally launched in January 2018, focuses on supporting municipal investments, reducing vulnerability and strengthening risk and disaster management.

The communes of Milot, Plaine du Nord, Cap-Haïtien, Acul du Nord, Limonade and Quartier Morin, are the direct beneficiaries of this major program which extends over 6 years.

Jointly managed by the Ministries of the Interior and Public Works, the MDUR is an opportunity to strengthen the capacity of municipalities to cope with the challenges of disaster risk in the already highly exposed Department of the North.

During this meeting, Minister Brunet, on behalf of the Haitian government, made the commitment to coordinate the various partners in the field working on the project "I hope the partners will work hard for the implementation of this project, in accordance with the expectations of Mayors and for the benefit of the population of the 6 communes of the region metropolitan North," said Brunet.
