Haiti - Politic : Electricity, Taiwanese experts in Haiti
Monday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse received in audience, a delegation of 21 Taiwanese high-level technicians, responsible for conducting studies prior to the construction of the national electrical network on behalf of the "Taiwan Power Company" also known under the name of "Taipower", a major public electricity production and distribution company, which the Head of State visited during his stay in Asia. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24554-haiti-flash-jovenel-moise-relies-on-taiwan-to-electrify-haiti.html

Moïse introduced the Taiwanese experts to the important elements of the national power grid, while insisting on the need to install 600 kilometers of cables in record time.

The Head of the delegation indicated that the team intended to present, in a short time to the National Regulatory Authority of the energy sector (ANARSE), as well as the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) the details concerning the installation of the network and in particular the technical and financial aspects.

If Moïse considers the Taiwanese cooperation as acquired for his project of electrification of haiti, distribution and production, it must be remembered that during the presentation to the Taiwan Power Company it had only confirmed that the project was feasible and that it would send a team to Haiti to continue their studies.

Moreover, whatever the Government suggests "between the lines", in addition to general intentions of cooperation, this electrification project is not explicitly mentioned in the joint communiqué on the strengthening of cooperation, signed in Taiwan between Jovenel Moïse and the President of Taiwan (Republic of China) Tsai Ing-wen, referring only to point 4 "The two Presidents agreed to establish a high-level working group to build a new partnership and alliance. With the resources of a Haitian-Taiwanese public-private partnership, the group plans within 60 days the framework and new terms of cooperation with Haiti in the field of economic development, infrastructure and foreign direct investment."

It remains to wait for the final report and the recommendations of the Taiwanese experts and essential point, know until how Taiwan is going or wants to contribute and under what conditions, to the financing of this ambitious project and wish that the population finally benefits from electricity 24/7 as promised by the President Moïse.
