Haiti - Environment : A delegation from the city of Saint-Marc in France

A delegation led by the Mayor of Saint-Marc Nicolas Dorvilus, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Frantz Ulysse, Nesly Gelin of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) and Valéry Hugues Victor of the Société des eaux de Saint Marc (SESAM) stayed a week in France in Bordeaux.

During this mission funded by HAMAP-Humanitaire de France, which hosted the delegation, the Saint-Marc town hall sought to strengthen itself by developing relations around water and sanitation.

Intense and sometimes stormy discussions between the Town Hall and DINEPA, on the one hand and the incomprehension of the contract linking DINEPA to the private operator SESAM on the other hand https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-4213-haiti-social-the-water-service-of-saint-marc-is-very-promising.html , punctuated constructive work sessions that ended on June 17.

The sanitation aspect was the center of interest of the Town Hall, which explained the main reasons for its desire to ensure the collection of garbage from the City Center of Saint-Marc. In this sense, the Haitian delegation met Bordeaux métropole which includes 28 municipalities (749,595 inhabitants) spread over the two banks of the Garonne around the city of Bordeaux (243,626 inhabitants).
