Haiti - Environment : The ecological reserve of Wynn Farm under the protection of the BSAP

Following the denunciation by the Lorquet Foundation of spoliation operations https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24654-haiti-flash-spoliation-operations-in-an-ecological-reserve-in-kenscoff.html of sale of illegal land, grabbing by armed men on the Wynne Farm an ecological reserve in Kenscoff, followed by the reaction of Me Daméus, the Government Commissioner of Port-au-Prince https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-24661-icihaiti-justice-spoliation-in-kenskoff-the-government-commissioner-asks-the-pnh-to-act.html ; Jeantel Joseph the Director General of the National Agency of Protected Areas (ANAP), on the instructions of Pierre Simon Georges the Minister of the Environment, proceeded last June 15 to the deployment of a contingent of agents of the Security Brigade of Protected Areas (BSAP) on the Wynn Farm Ecological Reserve to protect the physical integrity of the site.

Minister Georges justifies his decision by recalling in a note that "The Ecological Reserve of Wynn Farm is a natural good and belongs to the national heritage. The framework Decree on the Environment Management of 2006 (Le Moniteur No 11, Thursday, January 26, 2006), in its article 3, establishes as one of the basic principles that the national environment is a national heritage and an essential element for sustainable development. The decree introduces a moral and legal element in the conservation of the environment" adding "This is an inheritance bequeathed by past generations that we must pass on intact to future generations. Assets and spaces are considered heritage and should be the focus of the community as a whole."
