As part of their training, 120 future census agents are currently on the ground for a pilot census phase that will continue until July 7 in the comunes of Port-au-Prince, Jérémie, Anse d'Hainault, Jean Rabel, Croix-des-Bouquets, Saint-Marc, Gonaïves and Port-de-Paix under the supervision of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) in charge of the design, planning and implementation of censuses of the population in Haiti

This pilot census phase aims to provide the candidates with the necessary skills for the completion of the 5th General Census of Population and Housing (Ve RGPH). More specifically, this training aims to enable agents to become familiar with the concepts used in the questionnaire, to equip them with the necessary skills for the use of digital data collection applications, and also to strengthen their skills in reading the maps of zones where they will collect information from households. An exam is planned at the end of the training that will select the best candidates.

The pilot census is a necessary preparatory step, which is a comprehensive test of all census procedures, not only the content of the questionnaire but also computer applications to ensure a process of calibration and maturation of applications to ensure their reliability and verify the adequacy of the methods and tools with the general plan in anticipation of the organization of the main census which will take place at the beginning of the year 2019.

The enumeration sections tests were selected on the basis of the specificities and difficulties of the field and according to the environment of residence (urban or rural, or homeless). The constraints and difficulties, as well as the skills and competences of the agents to use the tablets will also be evaluated during the trainings. The Pilot Census will also provide an opportunity to test the secure data transmission system and quality control procedures at the time of the main collection.
