Haiti - FLASH : Lieutenant General Henri Namphy passed away
Tuesday, June 26, Lieutenant General Henri Namphy, who served the country in the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH) as President of the National Council of Government (CNG) and Head of State in the late 80s, died in a hospital in the Dominican Republic at the age of 85 due to cancer.

Born November 2, 1932 in Cap Haitien, General of the Haitian army and a former Head of State of Haiti, nicknamed "Ti-blan" or the "chouchou du peuple" , became President of Haiti on February 6 1986 in the wake of a revolution and a coup having allowed to drive out of the National Palace, the late-dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier. He remained in power until February 7, 1988, when he was replaced by Leslie Manigat, elected President, who put Namphy under arrest for insubordination. General Namphy used his influence and popularity to regain power on June 20, 1988, where he remained until September 17, 1988, when he was the victim of a coup organized by General Propser Avril.

The New Republic establishment is then led by soldiers in the CNG he presides with other generals. He was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian Armed Forces from 1987 to 1988. He was overthrown in 1988 by a military group commanded by General Prosper Avril and later exiled to the Dominican Republic (Residential Puerta de Hierro) and never returned to Haiti.

I have just heard the news of the death of the former President, Lieutenant General Henri Namphy, after a long illness bravely endured. On behalf of the Haitian people and on my own behalf, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the members of his family and loved ones, said President Jovenel Moses on his Twitter account.
