Haiti - Politic : The IDB has already invested nearly 1 billion Gourdes in the Caravan of Change

Luis Echebarria, the representative in Haiti of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) confirmed this week that the IDB had already disbursed nearly a billion gourdes (± 15.3 million US dollars) in the program "Caravan of change" of Government of Haiti.

Satisfied with the assessment, he announced that the Bank would renew its commitment to this Program and promised the forthcoming signing of a new memorandum of understanding between the Haitian State and the IDB for $ 10 million for the implementation of certain projects of this Program.

Gilles Damais Chief of Operations at the IDB provided clarification on the use of IDB funds in the Caravan of Change :

Nearly $ 5.1 million was spent for the benefit of the Ministry of Public Works, including $ 3 million for the acquisition of 6 excavators and $ 2.1 million for the purchase of asphalt concrete for asphalting the streets of the city of Les Cayes, the national road no. 7, the Corail-Pestel road and the reprofiling of the roads in the department of South and Grand-Anse.

$ 2 million was spent for the Ministry of the Environment for Formond Road Infrastructure, the Macaya Peak Reforestation Campaign https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-23882-icihaiti-environment-1-million-trees-for-macaya-national-park.html ($ 500,000) and labor-intensive projects in 10 communes.

8.25 million were spent for the benefit of the Ministry of Agriculture in the deratization of the plain of Artibonite (± 300,000 dollars), the purchase of vaccines to combat swine fever (± 350,000 dollars), the Acquisition of excavators (± 2 million), protection and reprofiling of rivers (3.8 million), canal cleaning and bank protection in Artibonite and South (1.25 million) and purchase of equipment for fishermen (± 600,000 dollars).
