Haiti - Justice : Installation and swearing of the 7 new members of the CSPJ

On Monday, President Jovenel Moïse in the presence of Deputy Garry Bodeau Speaker of the Lower House, members of the Standing Senate Committee "Justice and Security" whose President Jean Renel Sénatus and members of the Judiciary, attended the swearing in and installation of the 7 new members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ).

Invested for a term of 3 years, Jules Cantave President of the CSPJ renewed in this post, Judge Durin Duret Jr. (Representative of the courts of appeal), Noé Pierre Louis (Representative of the Courts of First Instnaces - TPI), Me Clamé Ocnam Dameus (Representative of the Ministry of Justice), Me Nader Désir, (representative of the Courts of Peace), Me Chenet Jean Baptiste and Me Chesnel Fils Lovy (Representatives of the Federation of Bars of Haiti) have sworn to "respect the Constitution, the laws and internal regulations of the Republic, to ensure the regular functioning of the judiciary and the protection of the rights of individuals" and advocated for the independence of justice.

In his speech President Moïse declared "[...] This institution, despite its youth, plays a fundamental role in strengthening the rule of law, serving mainly as a judicial body.

I wish to pay a well-deserved tribute to former President Michel Joseph Martelly for having taken the initiative to set up the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), in 2012, that is to say, five years after the adoption of the law establishing it. If there are institutions, throughout the entire territory of the Republic where the expression "Democratic Alternation" takes its true meaning, the CSPJ can be proud of being one of them. Indeed, since its installation, July 3, 2012, it is clear that the wish of Art 8 of the law of November 13, 2007 is respected and the Council is renewed with an exemplary regularity.

Under this Article, most Council members are appointed and / or elected for a 3-year term renewable once, which is an example in our dear little country trapped by the instability caused by crises of political alternation with its corollary, poverty.

The establishment of this important institution, which was so sorely lacking in our justice system in particular and in the State in general, has had the major virtue of allowing individuals to regain confidence in the national justice system."
