Haiti - Politic : Promise to build about 20,000 homes during the presidential term
Monday, Yvon Buissereth, the Director General of the Public Enterprise for the Promotion of Social Housing (EPPLS) presented his report and the prospects of his institution in terms of housing.
Created by Presidential Decree dated November 26, 1982, the EPPLS is in charge of the government's national housing policy. Its mission lies in the preparation, programming, implementation and management of social housing programs.
In terms of balance sheet, Yvon Buissereth announced that more than 2,000 social housing units are currently under construction in the South Peninsula, 220 of which are almost completed. In addition, 424 dwellings are also ready to be delivered to the inhabitants of Ouanaminthe and Terrier Rouge in the Nord-East department.
He also reported the construction of a 10,000-gallon reservoir at the Karako Village in Les Cayes, in the Southern Department, for the benefit of 100 families. For the fiscal year 2018-2019, Buissereth announced the construction of 7,000 homes across the country: 3,300 for the departments of the South, Grand'Anse and Nippes, 700 for the West, 500 for the Northeast, 500 for the North-West, 500 for the North, 500 for the Artibonite, 500 for the Center and 500 for the South-East for a cost of over 4 billion gourdes. Recalling that the goal is to build about 20,000 social housing units during the Head of State's mandate.
