Haiti - FLASH : NOTICE of floods and landslides

Haiti's Hydro-Meteorological Unit, together with the Civil Protection Directorate (DPC) and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management, issued a flood and landslide notice for the country on Monday.

Storm Beryl downgraded to an active tropical wave is expected to affect Haiti on Tuesday and cause heavy rain with gusts of wind.

Therefore, the DPC, which has mobilized its public information unit, asks populations in areas at risk of flooding, landslides and mudslides, to remain vigilant and to apply the usual safety instructions in particular, to arrange for travel to a less exposed dwelling or shelter :

  • Regularly follow the weather information and especially ignore the rumors;

  • Put your important papers in a safe place and review your emergency kit;

  • If you live in an at-risk area, near a gully, water stream or beach, make arrangements to move to housing or shelter less exposed to flooding and movement of land...

The DPC also asks seafarers, fishermen, cabotage operators, boaters and other users of the sea, especially on the southern coast of the country, to be keep informed about the marine weather and to scrupulously follow the instructions and measures and advises small boats to be careful near the coast and avoid venturing off.
