Haiti - FLASH : The Embassy of the United States asks for Marine reinforcements 11/07/2018 07:35:21
The US Embassy in Port-au-Prince has requested additional US Marines and State Department security personnel to strengthen the security of its Embassy in Haiti, two US officials said on the CNN channel.
The approved request includes a Marine Security Guard Augmentation Unit consisting of approximately 13 Marines, as well as other security personnel who will strengthen US Marine Corps members and existing State Department security personnel.
The unit composed of 13 Marines, is currently in liaison with Haiti according to a US military official.
"We do not discuss specific security matters concerning the protection of our facilities or personnel," said Tuesday a State Department official in a statement. "The security and safety of Americans are among our highest priorities."
"Local law enforcement and U.S. embassy security authorities will take appropriate measures to safeguard personnel and visitors."
