France is willing to build health centers in Haiti at the border area to help reduce the number of Haitian women giving birth in the Dominican Republic, but the Haitian Government has so far shown no interest in this project, said José Gomez, French Ambassador to Santo Domingo "Yes, we are very willing to help, with the support of the European Union, to build health centers so that pregnant Haitian women do not have to cross the border to give birth."

Ambassador Gomez explained "the problem is that these centers must be built in Haitian territory and for this, there must be an official demonstration of Haitian interest for this project, but so far, the Haitian Government has not not express this interest, so it is very difficult to do it, but we are eager as French and European to develop these health centers, but there must be before the support and interest of the Haitian authorities."

"I think that the creation of health centers in Haiti at the border area is a valid response, but the Haitian Government must help, it is not up to us to decide. "A similar situation in French Guiana, where many parturients of Suriname come to give birth, a situation that was resolved after the construction of a hospital so that women no longer have to cross the border."
