Haiti - FLASH : Parliament threatened to be attacked and burned within 48 hours

Wednesday the Deputy of Delmas Gary Bodeau, Speaker of the Lower House revealed that according to a reliable source and relevant information, a sector of society would be preparing to attack and burn down the premises of Parliament in the next 48 hours.

He added that even the deputies are not spared from the threats "We can not meet [...] The elected officials have the fear in the stomach because of a wave of threats." He announced that he intended to propose to the next Conference of Presidents that the members of Parliament expire the second session of the 2018 legislative year of this month, instead of waiting for the second Monday of September in ordert not to expose the life of the deputies.

Moreover, he is willing to share the information he has with the police authorities and said he will notify Michel-Ange Gédéon, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) of these threats, so that adequate protective measures are taken, stressing "[...] In the Chamber of Deputies, we do not have means to face acts of terrorism [...] the agents ensuring the safety of the building do not have the means to guarantee the safety of the building."
