Haiti - Economy : Increase in inflation, 13% annual

For the month of June 2018, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 349 against 345 in May, showing a + 1.3% rise in inflation on a monthly basis, compared to 1.2% the previous month https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24820-haiti-economy-monthly-inflation-up-+-13.html . Year on year (last 12 months) inflation reached 13% against 12.7% the previous month.

This monthly increase of + 1.3% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption indices: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 1.4%), "Clothing and fabrics, shoes" (+ 1.6%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water "(+ 1.7%)," Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance "(1.6%) and" Health "(+ 1.6%).

The upward change in the "Food, Beverage and Tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, comes from, among other things, the increase in rice prices (+ 1.6%), millet (+ 1.6%), average meat (+ 1.9%), fresh fish (+ 2.2%), herring on average (+ 1.9%), cod (+ 1.7%), coconut (+ 1.9%), bananas (+ 1.4%), lilies, pumpkins (+ 1.7%), leeks (+ 1.4%), carrots, tomatoes and yams (+ 1.5%), malanga and cassava (+ 1.5%), potato (+ 2.0%), real tree (+ 3.2%) and papaya (+ 1.5%).

The rise in the "Clothing and Apparel, Footwear" index comes from the variation in product prices such as: fabrics (+ 2.3%), shirt (+ 2.0%), men's T-shirt (+ 2.9%), men's trousers (+ 2.1%), underpants (+ 1.9%) and women's t-shirts (+ 2.5%).

The increase in the index "rent of housing, energy and water" comes from the rent of housing (≠ 1.9%) and charcoal (+ 2.0%).

The increase in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" index came mainly from the rise in living room furniture (+ 1.7%), mattresses (+ 2.1%), bed linen (+ 3.8%) and curtains. (+ 1.9%) and the salary of domestic staff (+ 1.8%).

Finally, the increase in the "Health" index is attributable to the increase in medicine prices (+ 1.2%), fees paid to doctors (+ 2.0%), laboratory analysis, radiography (+ 1.3%) and hospitalization costs (+ 1.2%).
