Haiti - Social : Humanitarian aid and reintegration of Haitian returnees in DR
From January to July 31, 2018 the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) has conducted a series of workshops in the border municipalities of Haiti.

Through these workshops GARR's mission is to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of community leaders, including local authorities, religious, youth, women, professionals, to build more effective networks in border communities that are welcoming daily repatriated Haitian migrants [over 70,000 in the first 6 months of this year https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25041-haiti-dr-nearly-70-000-haitians-deported-or-returned-in-haiti-during-the-1st-semester.html ]

During these workshops with the border communities, GAAR presented the results obtained in its various interventions at the border, particularly those relating to the reception and reintegration of returnees and to humanitarian assistance.

For over 27 years, GARR has been providing humanitarian assistance to Haitians repatriated from the Dominican Republic. Through this assistance, returnees generally receive psychosocial support, food, clothing, medical support, shelter and transportation allowance. School support is provided to repatriated children.

For reintegration, returnees receive financial assistance to carry out income-generating activities, social housing and support to regularize their situation in the Civil Registry. The people receiving economic support are trained in small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) management.
